What’s a healthier choice - Rice or Millets?

Here’s something to think about. Rice is a staple food in India, especially in the South. However, over the years we can see a downwards trend in the preference towards rice. The reason being, polishing rice. While unpolished rice is an excellent source of carbohydrates, coupled with B12 and dietary fibre, polished rice now ranks high only in fast burning carbohydrates. For most people who are health-conscious, this is a huge red flag. The Calorie-conscious amongst us, are now on the look-out for a healthier alternative to rice.
When we talk about a healthier option, we do have a lot of options, but it’s always wise to choose locally-grown, minimally-processed options. In our opinion, one such excellent alternative to consider: Millets!

The Millet Report Card
In Macronutrients department, Millets boast of 7-12% protein, 2-5% fat, 65-75% carbohydrates and 15-20% dietary fibre.

Millets are rich in Phosphorus, Iron, Calcium, Zinc, and Potassium which are essential micro-minerals required for a body to function to its full potential.

As a source of Vitamins, different Millets have varying quantities of folate, pantothenic acid, niacin, riboflavin, and Vitamins B6, C, E, and K.
