8 Refreshing Drinks to Try This Summer

1. Melon Surprise

A colourful, refreshing drink with the sharpness of ginger.

Preparation time: 40 minutes

No cooking

Makes 20 glasses

Ingredients:

1 bottle lemonade

A large can of orange juice

1 small white melon

1 large water lemon, cut lengthwise

3 bottle ginger-ale

To serve:

crushed ice

2 teacups watermelon juice

Method:

  1. Scoop out the melons using a melon baller.
  2. Chill the melon balls.
  3. Add the scooped portion of watermelon into a liquidiser to take out the juice.
  4. Next, chill the lemonade, ginger ale, melon juice, two teacups of water, and fruit juices.
  5. Mix the drinks and juices before serving.
  6. Fill the melon shells as desired.
  7. Add some chilled melon balls and decorate with a few flowers of your choice.

2. Orange and Apple Drink

A fine cooler for the summer days.

Preparation time: 10 minutes

Cooking time: 10 minutes

Serves 12 to 15

Ingredients:

1 bottle soda

6 bottles lemonade

1 ½ teacup orange squash (approx.)                                                     

Juice of 1 lemon                                         

4 large apple bottles, peeled and cut into bite-sized pieces

4 tablespoons sugar

To serve:                                   

Chopped fruits (seasonal)                 

Crushed ice

Method:

  1. Chill the soda and lemonade bottles.
  2. Peel and cut the apples into big pieces.
  3. Add 1 teacup of water, sugar, and lemon juice and begin cooking.
  4. When cooked, blend in a liquidiser.
  5. Add orange squash and the chilled lemonade and soda and mix when serving.

*Serve chilled after adding crushed ice and chopped fruit.

3. Mint Julep

A drink with the coolness of lemon and mint.

Preparation time: 10 minutes

No cooking

Makes 15 glasses

Ingredients:

Mint leaves

1 bottle lemon squash

3 bottles ginger ale, chilled

To decorate:

Pineapple cubes

Method:

  1. In a bowl, toss in all the mint leaves leaving a few for decoration.
  2. Add 10-12 glasses of water along with the lemon squash. Chill.
  3. Add chilled ginger ale when serving.

*Garnish with a balance of pineapple cubes and mint leaves and serve.

4. Strawberry Cocktail

A tall drink for the strawberry season.

Preparation time: 10 minutes

No cooking

Makes 1 glass

Ingredients:

3 sliced strawberries

4 teaspoons powdered sugar

1 bottle soda, chilled

2 tablespoons orange juice

3 teaspoons lemon juice

Method:

  1. In a tall glass, place the sliced strawberries at the bottom.
  2. Toss in the fruit juices along with sugar.

*Just before serving, top with some chilled soda.

5. Golden Froth

A healthy drink with the taste of orange.

Preparation time: a few minutes

No cooking

Makes 4 glasses

Ingredients:

2 bottles Fanta  

2 tablespoons vanilla ice-cream

¾ tablespoon lemon juice

To serve:

Crushed ice

Orange segments

Method:

Mix ice-cream, Fanta and lemon juice, before blending for 60 seconds in a liquidiser.

*Top with crushed ice and orange segments before serving.

6. Frozen Froth

Both adults and children love this lemony drink.

Preparation time: a few minutes

No cooking

Makes 4 glasses

Ingredients:

2 tablespoons vanilla ice-cream

2 bottles Limca

¾ teaspoon lemon juice

To serve:

Crushed ice  

Method:

Mix the ice cream, lemon juice and Limca, and blend for 1 minute in a liquidiser.

*Top with crushed ice and serve.

7. Peach Cooler

Fluffy, cold and rich.

Preparation time: a few minutes

No cooking

Makes 1 large glass

Ingredients:

2 scoops vanilla ice- cream

2 peaches canned, halved

1 bottle lemonade

To serve:

crushed ice

A few drops of lemon juice

Method:

Blend the lemon juice, peaches and lemonade in a liquidiser.

*Serve topped with the vanilla ice-cream and crushed ice.

8. Orange and Carrot Drink

A healthy drink for the calorie counters.

Preparation time: a few minutes

No cooking

Makes 1 large glass

Ingredients:

2 pinches salt

A few drops of lemon juice

2 pills saccharine or 3 drops saccharine

2 tomatoes

1 orange

1 carrot

To serve:

Crushed ice

Method:

  1. Cut the carrots and tomatoes into big pieces.
  2. Add 1 ½ teacup of water to the orange segments.
  3. Blend with the remaining ingredients in a liquidiser and strain.

*Serve immediately with lots of crushed ice.
